What is an eamesbikini?
An eamesbikini is a two-piece seat cushion custom-made to fit the Herman Miller wire chair (the DKR)
designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1950. Each bikini consists of a bottom seat pad and
a top pad that ties in the middle and securely fits the body of the chair.
Why can't I just order bikini pads from Herman Miller, the original manufacturer of the chair?
Herman Miller has changed the design of the bikini in such a way that they say it only fits the current version of the wire chair and not vintage chairs. In any case, they do not sell bikini pads separately, only as an option on new chairs.
Do you sell the one-piece DKR-1 "full-chair" cover?
Yes, you can email us to special order the one-piece pad but the types of material we offer on this version are limited due to shape restrictions of the pad. We sell this pad for $299 each.
Will your bikini pads fit my vintage chair?
Yes, we guarantee it. Our pads are designed to take up slack that may result from fitting older chairs. If you have a problem fitting a chair we will refit the pad for you.
Do you sell the Eames wire chair?
No, we only specialize in the pads since the chairs are readilly available on other websites. Email us if you are looking for suggestions on sourcing chairs.
Are eamesbikinis authentic to the original design by Charles and Ray Eames?
Yes. These bikini pads are exact replicas of an authentic DKR-2 (two-piece) seat cushion manufactured by Herman Miller in 1955. These new cushions use the original design that had
a steel wire that loops through the backs of the pads and hook to the body of the chair -- just like the original. There is also a fabric "loop" on the top pad and a black silk-covered button on the bottom pad so the pads can be hooked together at the touch-point.
Do you sell pads for other wire chairs like the Knoll Bertoia wire group?
Yes, we do. In fact, we run another website called www.bertoiapads.com that sells pads for the child chair, side, diamond, bird, and large diamond chairs.
How do these fabrics pad the chair?
An eamesbikini is more than just a fabric cover. It is a true cushion made by assembling a layer of fabric over both sides of a 1/2" thick urethane foam pad.
Is shippping free?
Yes, shipping is free on all bikini pad orders in the continental U.S. We also ship to anywhere in the world -- generally, we can ship pads anywhere in the world for about $30 USD.
Do all eamesbikinis cost the same?
No, depending on the fabric you choose, prices will vary. Our premium designer fabrics start at $169.00 but we periodically run sales on over-stock items. Check the homepage for deals.
The Solids series and IZIT LEATHER pads are regularly $149.
How long will it take for my order to ship?
We strive to deliver within 14 days of your order. But because we make each bikini by hand in our design studio, it may take longer for some selections. If you absolutely have to have it faster, call us to see what we have ready to ship. Most orders take two weeks.
What if I am not completely satisfied with my purchase?
We are so convinced that our bikini products are of the finest quality that we offer a 14-day money-back guarantee.
If you are not happy with your new eamesbikini chair pad, just send it back to us.
Buyer pays return shipping costs. 15% restocking fee may apply on special orders, orders for more than 4 pads are valid for exchange only.
*Non-U.S. orders are returned at customers expense.
How are items delivered and what is the cost of shipping?
Small orders (up to four bikinis) will be delivered to your residence via insured, U.S. Postal Service. Larger orders will be delivered via FedEx Ground or Express 3-day delivery.
For orders outside the continental U.S., we use USPS International service.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. Buyer pays a flat-fee international shipping cost, usually about $30 USD.
What is your internet security/privacy policy?
Eamesbikini, Inc. takes privacy very seriously and is committed to the principle that our clients must be secure
knowing that information they disclose is used for the purpose for which it was collected and not sold,
bartered or traded to third parties. Having a relationship founded on trust with our clients is simply good business.
